Heat pumps work brilliantly when they’re designed properly. That’s why we became experts.

Phil, the founder of SK, trained as Heat Geek Elite because he wanted to do things properly. That means every system is sized to your home’s actual heat loss, not a catalogue guess. The result is a heat pump that runs quietly, heats well, and costs as little as possible.

Heat Geek Elite

One of the highest independent accreditations for heat pump design in the UK. Every system is sized to your home's actual heat loss.

25 years experience

Phil has spent 25 years in heating and renewables, the last five focused entirely on heat pumps. Over 150 systems designed and installed.

Free heat loss survey

Every installation starts with a proper in-home survey. Fixed-price quote, predicted running costs, and grant eligibility confirmed before you commit.

About SK

Heat Geek Elite. MCS Certified. Built for the North.

SK Renewables and Heating is based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, and covers Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and North Yorkshire.

Phil has 25 years of experience in heating and renewable energy, with the last five focused entirely on heat pumps. In that time he has designed and installed over 150 systems across the UK, from rural farmhouses coming off oil to modern homes replacing gas. The wider SK team brings the same depth of experience across electrical, plumbing, and building fabric, so every installation is managed properly from start to finish.

Phil holds Heat Geek Elite status, one of the highest independent standards for heat pump design and installation in the UK. Heat Geek Elite training is centred on getting the physics right: proper heat loss calculations, correct flow temperatures, and systems designed to run at their peak efficiency.

The company is also MCS Certified (required for BUS Grant eligibility), Gas Safe Registered, and OFTEC Registered, meaning SK can advise honestly across the full range of heating options: gas, oil, LPG, and renewables.

The Survey

The ZeroDisrupt™ survey

Before any installation, SK carries out a ZeroDisrupt™ heat loss survey. Using AI-powered LiDAR scanning, the survey models your home’s actual heat loss room by room. This determines whether your existing radiators and pipework can stay, which in most cases they can, making the transition stress-free and more affordable.

  • No oversized systems that short-cycle and waste energy
  • No unnecessary radiator replacements
  • Accurate running cost forecasts before you commit
  • Systems that perform exactly as quoted

Had the team install a Vaillant aroTHERM Plus last autumn. The heat loss survey was thorough and the system was sized properly. Our radiators didn't need replacing and the heating has been brilliant all winter. Highly recommended.

Switched from oil to an air source heat pump and couldn't be happier. Phil handled the BUS grant paperwork completely, I didn't have to do a thing. The install team were tidy, professional, and finished on time. Bills already noticeably lower.

The free survey was thorough and honest. No pressure, just a clear explanation of what my home needed. The installation was neat and clean, and the engineer walked me through the controls. Brilliant from start to finish.

Coming off LPG I was nervous about the switch but Phil's Heat Geek training really shows. He modelled our heat loss properly and the system performed exactly as quoted. Running costs for the year came in well under what we were spending on LPG.

Had solar PV and a battery system installed. The advice was honest, they didn't oversell on panel count, just told me what would work for my roof. Everything installed in a day, all electrics signed off, and my export payments started almost immediately.

New gas boiler after our old one gave up. Quoted on a Wednesday, fitted by Friday. Prompt, tidy, and left the house cleaner than they found it. Very competitive price and the engineer took time to show us the controls. Will use again without hesitation.

After years of expensive oil bills I finally made the switch. SK were patient throughout and answered every question without making me feel silly. The heat pump runs almost silently and the house is warmer than it ever was on oil. So glad I did it.

First winter with the heat pump and I can honestly say we've not once been cold. Phil was right about the ZeroDisrupt™ survey, we kept all our existing radiators. The BUS grant brought the cost right down and the install was done in a single day. Outstanding.
