BUS Grant North East

Up to £9,000 towards a heat pump. We handle all the paperwork.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant that reduces the upfront cost of switching to a heat pump. SK is MCS certified, which means we apply on your behalf and deduct the grant directly from your invoice.

The grant is deducted directly from your installer's invoice. You never handle the money. SK applies on your behalf as part of every MCS-certified installation.

*The £9,000 uplift for off-gas-grid homes has been announced by the government and is expected to take effect in July 2026. Until then, the applicable grant for these properties is £7,500. SK will apply for the higher amount as soon as it takes effect.

Why it matters

No income
threshold

The BUS Grant is available to every eligible homeowner in England and Wales, regardless of earnings.

No insulation
requirement

You no longer need to act on EPC insulation recommendations before applying. If your home is suitable for a heat pump, the grant is available.

Closes
March 2027

The scheme is time-limited with no guarantee of funding beyond March 2027. Applying sooner secures your place.

Off your
invoice

The grant is deducted before you pay. No rebate to chase, no refund to wait for. You simply pay less from day one.

Most homeowners are eligible.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need to do anything to apply?

No. SK handles the application entirely. You sign a consent form and we do the rest. The grant is deducted before your invoice is issued.

How long does the grant process take?

There is no wait. The grant is deducted before you pay, so you pay the net amount from day one. There is no rebate to claim after the fact.

Do I need to upgrade my insulation first?

No. The BUS Grant no longer requires you to act on EPC insulation recommendations before applying. A valid EPC is still required, but outstanding insulation recommendations do not block your eligibility.

I heat my home with storage heaters. Am I eligible?

Possibly. Homes with inefficient electric heating, including electric boilers and storage heaters, are eligible for the BUS Grant. You cannot claim if you are replacing an existing heat pump or other low-carbon system. We confirm eligibility as part of your free survey.

Can I claim if I already have a gas boiler?

Yes. Gas homes are eligible for the BUS Grant at the standard £7,500 rate. The £9,000 uplift (expected July 2026) applies to off-gas-grid homes on oil or LPG only.
